Specialists studied effects of these products on performance of sportspersons and bodybuilders. Several doctors promoted administration of steroids among professional sportspersons. John Ziegler was one of them. He administered the steroid Dianabol to Olympic athletes.
Steroids were also widely used in the world of sports and bodybuilding in 1960s and in 1970. Over 50 % Olympic athletes took these preparations. Although new kinds of tests were introduced by anti-doping officials, it was impossible to combat applying these preparations by sportspeople.
